RM of Senlac’s story
The Rural Municipality of Senlac No. 411 became an incorporated rural municipality on January 1, 1913. It lies in west-central Saskatchewan, right up against the Alberta boundary, and surrounds the village of Senlac, where the RM office is found. The communities of Rutland, Winter and Yonker are also within its boundaries.
One of the best-known places in the RM is Suffern Lake Regional Park, established in 1967 to mark the Canadian Centennial. The lake was originally called Fish Lake, but it was renamed for Jack Suffern, who served as the area's forest ranger from 1914 to 1945. In 1975 a second section of the park was added on the northwest corner of Manitou Lake, and in 2019 that section became its own park, Big Manitou Regional Park.
Today Suffern Lake's park offers a campground with 56 sites, a nine-hole golf course, and courts and pits for volleyball, horseshoes and bunnock.
